Cascais Ópera celebra a natureza e promove convívio entre artistas em dia especial ao ar livre

No dia 1 de maio, os concorrentes foram convidados a viver uma experiência ao ar livre, num dia especialmente concebido para promover o bem-estar, o contacto com a natureza e o convívio entre os protagonistas deste evento internacional.

A atividade teve início na Capela da Malveira da Serra, onde o grupo se reuniu para dar início a uma caminhada até ao Forte do Abano, situado na costa atlântica. A paisagem natural da região de Cascais, com as suas falésias, vegetação autóctone e vista deslumbrante sobre o mar, foi o cenário perfeito para fomentar a ligação entre os participantes e o território que acolhe o concurso.

No Forte do Abano, os presentes participaram numa atividade de meditação – um momento de pausa e introspeção, num local carregado de história e serenidade. O dia – que reforçou o espírito de partilha e de comunidade que marca o Cascais Ópera – terminou com um descontraído piquenique no Parque Marechal Carmona, um dos espaços verdes mais emblemáticos da vila.

Para os jovens cantores, que desfrutaram da companhia de vários membros da organização, entre outros convidados, esta foi uma oportunidade de descobrir a envolvente natural de Cascais, num ambiente informal e relaxado, e longe da dinâmica da competição.

Esta iniciativa inscreve-se assim num dos objetivos fundamentais do Cascais Ópera: dar a conhecer a vila de Cascais em toda a sua diversidade, muito para além dos palcos e auditórios. Ao longo dos últimos dias, os participantes passaram por espaços culturais como o Centro Cultural de Cascais, a Casa das Histórias Paula Rego, o Museu Condes de Castro Guimarães e o Palácio da Cidadela, locais que acolheram provas, masterclasses e o concerto de semifinalistas.

O dia 1 de maio veio reforçar esse percurso, ligando a experiência artística à beleza natural do concelho – num convite a inspirarem-se não só na música, mas também na paisagem deslumbrante e no espírito acolhedor de Cascais.

Over the past three decades, primarily in London, Portugal and Amsterdam, Dr Jorge Balça
has developed a strong portfolio of work and a unique combination of skillsets – as a stage
director (of theatre, opera, and hybrid forms), a teacher and workshop leader, a presentation
skills, acting and creativity coach, and practice-based researcher. His work in all these
domains is distinguished by his commitment to and skill in making fantasy and invention
emerge from precise knowledge and training – and by his ability to inspire a similar alchemy
in his collaborators.

Classically trained as an actor and countertenor, he studied theatre directing in London and
Moscow, specialising in Shakespeare, techniques of adaptation, Meyerhold and commedia
dell’arte. Jorge also holds a PhD exploring the dramatic training of opera performers.
With a love for site-specific projects and collaborative forms, and an equal flair for comedy
and drama, his work is dramaturgically inventive, visually striking, and physically engaged.
He was the artistic director of Bloomsbury Opera and associate director of The Opera
Makers, both in London. In Portugal, he has recently directed L’Heure Espagnole and The
Turn of the Screw at Centro Cultural de Belém, and Don Giovanni and La Voix Humaine at
Festival de Ópera de Óbidos.

Jorge is committed to his work as a teacher, having taught at the Dutch National Opera
Academy, Morley College London, Universidade de Évora and other institutions. He
maintains an international coaching private practice and is the acting coach at the Neil
Semer Vocal Institute in Italy.
