Abertas as candidaturas para a 3.ª edição

O Cascais Ópera – Concurso Internacional de Canto tem as candidaturas abertas para a sua 3.ª edição, convidando jovens cantores líricos de todo o mundo a embarcar numa experiência artística de excelência que une formação, atuações e oportunidades reais de carreira.

De edição para edição, o concurso tem vindo a crescer em projeção, prémios e impacto internacional. Este ano, o valor total dos prémios ultrapassa 50.000 euros (ver prémios), e o número de contratos e parcerias artísticas internacionais continua a expandir-se, afirmando o Cascais Ópera como um dos concursos vocais mais promissores da atualidade.

Podem candidatar-se cantores de qualquer nacionalidade, entre os 18 e os 32 anos, de todas as tipologias vocais. As candidaturas decorrem até 15 de janeiro de 2026, exclusivamente online, através deste link.

Na última edição, o concurso recebeu mais de 340 candidaturas de 49 países, consolidando o seu estatuto global. O concurso reúne um painel de jurados de renome internacional, presidido pelo barítono Sergei Leiferkus, e composto por nomes como Antonio Pirolli, Catarina Sereno, Christina Scheppelmann, Eline de Kat, Erik Malmquist, Ferruccio Furlanetto, Fredrik Andersson, Ivan van Kalmthout, Juliane Banse e Karen Stone. Esta composição garante um júri globalmente relevante que pode ser uma ajuda determinante na carreira dos jovens concorrentes.

Toda a competição decorre em locais emblemáticos da vila de Cascais. A Final terá lugar no Grande Auditório da Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, em Lisboa, acompanhada pela Orquestra Sinfónica de Cascais — o momento mais aguardado da competição, onde o talento e a emoção se encontram num palco de excelência.
Entre as paisagens de Cascais e a cidade de Lisboa, o concurso alia excelência artística e património, afirmando Portugal como um novo centro de referência internacional da ópera.

Over the past three decades, primarily in London, Portugal and Amsterdam, Dr Jorge Balça
has developed a strong portfolio of work and a unique combination of skillsets – as a stage
director (of theatre, opera, and hybrid forms), a teacher and workshop leader, a presentation
skills, acting and creativity coach, and practice-based researcher. His work in all these
domains is distinguished by his commitment to and skill in making fantasy and invention
emerge from precise knowledge and training – and by his ability to inspire a similar alchemy
in his collaborators.

Classically trained as an actor and countertenor, he studied theatre directing in London and
Moscow, specialising in Shakespeare, techniques of adaptation, Meyerhold and commedia
dell’arte. Jorge also holds a PhD exploring the dramatic training of opera performers.
With a love for site-specific projects and collaborative forms, and an equal flair for comedy
and drama, his work is dramaturgically inventive, visually striking, and physically engaged.
He was the artistic director of Bloomsbury Opera and associate director of The Opera
Makers, both in London. In Portugal, he has recently directed L’Heure Espagnole and The
Turn of the Screw at Centro Cultural de Belém, and Don Giovanni and La Voix Humaine at
Festival de Ópera de Óbidos.

Jorge is committed to his work as a teacher, having taught at the Dutch National Opera
Academy, Morley College London, Universidade de Évora and other institutions. He
maintains an international coaching private practice and is the acting coach at the Neil
Semer Vocal Institute in Italy.
