Cascais Ópera 2026 reúne 41 cantores de 25 nacionalidades

A terceira edição do Cascais Ópera – Concurso Internacional de Canto realiza-se de 29 de maio a 7 de junho de 2026, em Cascais e Lisboa, afirmando-se como uma plataforma internacional para jovens talentos da ópera.

Entre 499 candidaturas provenientes de 59 países, foram selecionados 41 cantores, representando 25 nacionalidades. Entre os países mais representados destacam-se a China, a Alemanha, a Coreia do Sul e Portugal, a par de uma presença alargada de candidatos oriundos das Américas e de África.

Esta dimensão internacional reflete a integração do Cascais Ópera em redes de referência como a OLA – Ópera Latinoamérica e a World Federation of International Music Competitions, que promovem a mobilidade artística e o desenvolvimento profissional dos jovens cantores.

O concurso tem início a 29 de maio com o Concerto de Inauguração, com a participação de Sílvia Sequeira, Ana Rita Coelho, John Pumphrey e Sergei Leiferkus, acompanhados pela Orquestra de Câmara de Cascais e Oeiras e pelo Coro Sinfónico Lisboa Cantat.

As provas abertas ao público decorrem nos dias 30 e 31 de maio, seguindo-se as semifinais a 2 de junho e o Concerto dos Semifinalistas a 4 de junho. A programação inclui ainda masterclasses e atividades ao longo da semana.

O concurso culmina com o Concerto da Final, no dia 7 de junho, na Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, em Lisboa, onde oito finalistas se apresentarão acompanhados pela Orquestra Sinfónica de Cascais, sob direção de Antonio Pirolli.

Os bilhetes para a Final encontram-se disponíveis na Ticketline. A maioria das atividades é gratuita e aberta ao público.

Over the past three decades, primarily in London, Portugal and Amsterdam, Dr Jorge Balça
has developed a strong portfolio of work and a unique combination of skillsets – as a stage
director (of theatre, opera, and hybrid forms), a teacher and workshop leader, a presentation
skills, acting and creativity coach, and practice-based researcher. His work in all these
domains is distinguished by his commitment to and skill in making fantasy and invention
emerge from precise knowledge and training – and by his ability to inspire a similar alchemy
in his collaborators.

Classically trained as an actor and countertenor, he studied theatre directing in London and
Moscow, specialising in Shakespeare, techniques of adaptation, Meyerhold and commedia
dell’arte. Jorge also holds a PhD exploring the dramatic training of opera performers.
With a love for site-specific projects and collaborative forms, and an equal flair for comedy
and drama, his work is dramaturgically inventive, visually striking, and physically engaged.
He was the artistic director of Bloomsbury Opera and associate director of The Opera
Makers, both in London. In Portugal, he has recently directed L’Heure Espagnole and The
Turn of the Screw at Centro Cultural de Belém, and Don Giovanni and La Voix Humaine at
Festival de Ópera de Óbidos.

Jorge is committed to his work as a teacher, having taught at the Dutch National Opera
Academy, Morley College London, Universidade de Évora and other institutions. He
maintains an international coaching private practice and is the acting coach at the Neil
Semer Vocal Institute in Italy.
